NBA Rumors: Bulls Show Interest in Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga

2025-06-23

New reports detail the future of Jonathan Kuminga and how the Bulls have been involved in ongoing trade talks for the swingman.

As rumors continue to circulate around Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga and his future path, there seems to be widespread anticipation as to where he could end up. As Kevin Durant's status seems to have affected Kuminga's trade market in some ways, one team has been interested in signing the star over the past few seasons.

Writing on Stan Wire, Jake Fischer states that the "most likely outcome" for Kuminga is that he stays with the Golden State Warriors as he is set to become a restricted free agent. However, Fischer noted that the Chicago Bulls have "continued interest" in the 22-year-old and have been actively negotiating a trade for him "over the past two seasons."

"To date, though, none of these teams have been mentioned as potential targets for Kuminga," Fischer wrote. "At this point, it appears that the most likely outcome for the Warriors' restricted free agent swingman is a return to Golden State."

"However...sources say the Chicago Bulls have continued to be interested in the 22-year-old forward," Fisher continued. "This is consistent with the interest the Bulls have shown in trade negotiations with the Golden State Warriors for Kuminga over the past two seasons, when players involved included Alex Caruso, Zach Lavine and Nikola Vucevic."

The Bulls' connection to Jonathan Kuminga is well known.

As Fisher noted, the Bulls have long been linked to Kuminga, with ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel mentioning in May that the Bulls, Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets all had "preliminary interest" in the swingman.

"Sources say the Nets, Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat are the three teams that had preliminary interest in Kuminga before the free agency market opened," Siegel wrote. "Kuminga and the Warriors may be able to agree on a new, fair contract, but exploring a sign-and-trade opportunity seems like the best option for both parties."

As Fischer said, Kuminga's future may become clearer once Durant is traded to a new team, which will bring changes to the rest of the franchise. That includes the Miami Heat, who are actively pursuing Durant and may consider Kuminga if the team can't get him.

"The reality for Kuminga is that his summer prospects are unlikely to become clearer until Kevin Durant's trade prospects are resolved and the NBA's most accomplished and widely considered tradeable forward finds a new team," Fischer wrote. "For example, some rivals believe that the Miami Heat could be a potential suitor for Kuminga if Pat Riley and company fail to win the Durant trade sweepstakes -- among the many guards and wing-guard swingmen the Heat could target."

Where Kuminga goes this summer remains to be seen, as many final decisions appear to be up in the air.
